2019 Umgungundlovu Hockey Selection

Eight Laddsworth pupils have been selected to represent the Umgungundlovu Hockey Team. Grade 6 pupils Awande Mthalane and Lucy Baker have been selected for the Under 12 Team. Grade 7 pupils Joshua Julius, Yethaba Mchunu, Ryan McKean, Jessica Allen, Camryn Heafield and Ella Shuttleworth have been selected for the Under 13 Team. These pupils will take part in KwaZulu-Natal Inland hockey trials from 18 to 19 May 2019 in Pietermaritzburg. Laddsworth wish the players everything of the best.

Record Easter Eggs Collection for Siyabonga

Laddsworth Primary School collected a record of 5953 Easter Eggs for Siyabonga over the last couple of weeks. Education Managers, Mrs Kanzler and Mrs Ballantine from Siyabonga, collected the eggs at Assembly on Monday 15 April 2019. Laddsworth pupils have been part of the Easter Eggs collection project for the last nine years. Laddsworth has had an overwhelming response and this is by far the most collected. It is wonderful to know that we will be making a small difference to the lives of many young children. Siyabonga will hand out these Easter eggs to under-privileged children in the communities, which they support.

 

Medals at KZN Schools Gala

Seven Laddsworth pupils competed in the KZN Schools Gala in Durban on Saturday, 13 April, swimming for the uMgungundlovu District team. Two of our pupils received medals: Nicholas Kruger (Grade 7) – Under 13 received two Bronze Medals for 200m Individual Medley and 200m Breaststroke. Patrick Lamb (Grade 6) - Under 12 received two Silver Medals for 100m Butterfly and 100m Backstroke and a Bronze Medal for 200m Backstroke.

The uMgungundlovu Team came 3rd overall. Well done to our swimmers for ‘Aiming High’ and making Laddsworth proud.

 

 

WESSA Umgeni Valley Trail Run

Laddsworth Grade 3 pupil, Jonathan Day, took part in the 5km WESSA Umgeni Valley Trail Run on Sunday 14 April 2019 in Howick. Jonathan came first in his age group and 24th overall.

 

Laddsworth Swimmers excel in Sasolburg

Laddsworth pupils Georgina Francis (Grade 7) and Patrick Lamb (Grade 6) took part in the SA Level 2 Regional Championships in Sasolburg, from 3-5 April 2019. 63 teams participated from across Southern Africa. Patrick and Georgina swam for Penguins Swimming Club.

Georgina Francis took part in the Under 12 Age group and received a Bronze Medal for 50m Back stroke, 200m Individual Medley (Relay), 4 x 100m Freestyle (Relay) and a Gold Medal for 4 x 50m Freestyle (Relay).

Patrick Lamb participated in the Under 12 age group and received Gold Medals for 100m Freestyle, 50m Backstroke, 200m Individual Medley, 100m Backstroke, 200m Backstroke. He received Bronze Medals for 200m Freestyle and 100m Butterfly. Patrick also swam relays for the under 13-16 Age Group and received Gold Medals for 4x 50m Medley and 4 x 100m Freestyle and a Silver medal for 4 x 50m Freestyle.

 

Laddsworth pupils achieve Karate Grading

Laddsworth pupils Jamie Humphrey, Grade 3 and Thomas Erasmus, Grade 5 achieved their Kimura Shukokai Karate grading on Sunday 7 April in Howick. Thomas achieved his Orange Belt in 7th Kyu Grade and Jamie achieved his Yellow Belt in Junior 8th Kyu Grade.

 

Laddsworth Swimathon 2019

Laddsworth Primary School hosted a Swimathon Fundraiser during the course of the first term. Pupils had lots of fun and were challenged to swim as many widths (Junior Primary pupils) or lengths (Senior Primary pupils) of their school swimming pool as they were able to in 30 minutes. The challenge took take place during Physical Education lessons. The record was 74 lengths, which works out to 1850m in less than 30 minutes.

Laddsworth Primary School would like to congratulate their pupils on their fine efforts. The funds raised from this event will be used to further develop the school facilities.

 

Laddsworth Cricket Stars

Laddsworth Cricket players put in an excellent performance against Athlone Primary School on Saturday 2 March 2019.
Samuel Bishop (Grade 4) made 52 runs not out in the under 10A match.
Dax Jursa (Grade 6) made 66 runs not out in the under 11A match.
Marthinus Erasmus (Grade 7) took 5 wickets for 5 runs in the First Team match.
The boys each received a cricket ball for their fine efforts.

 

KwaZulu-Natal Regional Irish Dancing Competition

Laddsworth Grade One pupil, Alison Rennie participated in the KwaZulu-Natal Regional Irish Dance Competition in Pinetown on Saturday 9 March 2019. Alison took part in the Under 7 Category and won Gold in the Light Jig Dance, Silver in the Reel Dance and Silver in the Single Jig Dance.
